Tongsheng TSDZ2 review and ride
Nov 28, 2022
The Tongsheng TSDZ2 is a great little motor. For my full review please visit: https://ebikechoices.com/tongsheng-tsdz2-review
I have converted and ridden over a hundred e-bikes using direct drive hub motors, geared hub motors, Bafang mid-drives and more recently Tongsheng TSDZ mid-drives.
I tended to stay away from the Tongsheng due to early reports of reliability issues, but they seem to have improved substantially.
Having ridden the 250w / 500w and 750w variants I prefer the way the TSDZ2 produces pedal assist through its torque sensor. It makes for a very smooth and intuitive ride.
I have ridden quite a few Bosch and Yamaha powered ebikes like the Cube Cross Hybrid, and the Tongsheng motor is closest to the Bosch in terms of general feel and performance (250w version).
I haven't experienced any problems yet, with the 20 or so kits I have installed, but the main weak points still seems to be the blue nylon gear, Torque sensor and sprag clutch.
Thankfully there is a good supply of affordable spare parts, and the motor is fairly easy to work on for the competent DIY ebike enthusiast.
I think if you looking for a fairly affordable mid-drive motor with torque sensor, the Tongsheng TSDZ2 is hard to beat. As long as you are willing to live with any long-term reliability issues that may emerge.
