Engwe Engine Pro review: Are Fat Tire Folding E-Bikes any Good?

Mar 28, 2023
In this review of the Engwe Engine Pro 750w fat tire e-bike, I take a closer look at the motor performance, battery range and other features of this folding electric fat bike. In this video, we take an in-depth look at the Engwe Engine Pro fat tire folding e-bike. Recorded last summer, I spent a few months with the Engwe and covered a couple of hundred miles on it. My experience led me to compile a list of pros and cons for this e-bike. What I liked about the Engwe Engine Pro: It boasts plenty of power, offering an effortless riding experience. The battery range is decent, averaging around 40 miles per charge in a hilly area when used sensibly. The comfort and riding position is satisfactory, though I found the handlebars a bit narrow. The brakes are consistent in performance, but I did experience brake fade on a few steep descents. The suspension effectively dampens road vibrations and smooths out potholes. What I didn't like: The motor is quite noisy, especially when regenerative braking is activated. The regenerative braking feature seems unnecessary, as it slows the bike down when coasting downhill (maxing out at 20 mph) but only marginally recharges the battery. The e-bike is heavy and difficult to pedal without electric assistance. While the folding feature helps with storage, it remains bulky even when folded. The included saddle is uncomfortable for pedaling, prompting me to swap it for a more comfortable option. Off-road handling can be challenging, and the suspension quickly reaches its limits on even moderate gravel tracks.
