I have compiled a product table covering the most popular e-bike batteries currently used on DIY electric bike conversion kits like the Bafang BBS01 / BBS02 / BBSHD and Tongsheng TSDZ2.
All of the electric bike batteries listed below are available for global shipping through trusted suppliers on Aliexpress. The shipping time to the countries listed below varies from 21-60 days. However some batteries are shipped from regional distribution centres in the EU and North America. If this is case then shipping times can be reduced to under 7 days.
My preferred supplier UPP now sells on eBay – Here is a link to their eBay shop
- New Zealand
- And many more!
Most of the e-bike batteries listed below use high quality branded 18650 Lithium cells by Samsung, LG, Panasonic and Sanyo. For more information check out my electric bike batteries explained article.
You will need to purchase the correct voltage battery for your motor kit and you will need to take into account the continuous current rating of your motor controller – for example a Bafang BBSHD has a 48v 30A controller, so you would want a 48 volt battery with a continuous current of 30A.
Another important consideration is the size of your frame. Smaller frames, and full-suspension mountain bike’s will have limited space for a typical Hailong case battery pack.
The batteries below have been selected to suit a variety of different electric bike conversion kits – I would exercise caution when using a 52v battery with the Bafang BBS02 750w, particularly if you are going to be using full-power all the time. I have personally used a 52v battery on a BBS02-powered bike for 12 months without any issues, but I reprogrammed the controller and only used pedal assist. Check out my review of the BBS02 for more information.
The Bafang BBSHD seems fine with a 52v battery. The controller can comfortably handle the higher voltage and current.
